Elementary Sight Singing
Sight Singing is the ability to read music and sing it without the help of a musical instrument. It requires the singer to hear notes in their head before singing, a diffiicult skill to learn, but the up-side is that practising sight singing is superb for aural development. The first step is the Tonic Solfa scale.
Practise singing regularly using the handsigns as an aid.
1. Doh Re Me Fah So Lah Te Doh Te Lah Soh Fah Me Re Doh.
2. Soh Me Lah Soh Me Doh Re Doh. Notice that we have to skip (leap) notes when singing this. E.G. if you start on Soh (5th step) and jump to Me (3rd step) you have to skip or leap Fah (4th step). This is our first example of moving by leap. Use the Video below to help with daily practice.
