The Streets of Laredo pt 3
This is one of the simplest songs from a theory viewpoint so it was an ideal one to begin with. Note the time signature 3/4, the upbeat start and the main simple rhythms of crotchets and dotted crotchet-quaver. This song could be written in any key in the exam.
Although there is no syncopation in this written version, there may be in another, so you need to be able to adapt. Listen in the exam and work it out. Not everything can be learned off!!! e.g. Listen to the Johnny Cash version on the first year Streets of Laredo page. In the first line his "walked out" and "streets of" are syncopated!
In the exam, there will be some simple questions that you will have learned off. There will also be tricky questions that you have to work out. These separate the very good from the fairly good students
